Our Mission
To bring more connection and peace to the experience of living and dying in Western New York.
We invite community members to gather in person - well before they are facing a health crisis or terminal diagnosis - to get real about this important topic that most would prefer to avoid.
We share resources, encourage conversations, and practice story listening so that - when our time comes - each of us is more prepared to live that time in a way that is aligned with our own values.
Who we are
Amber L Sastry, MPP is a Community Death Educator and Global Health Leader who is dedicated to bringing more connection and peace to the experiences of birthing, living, and dying. Her professional experience spans 25 years in global health medical research, community programs, public policy, and funding partnerships. Alongside this work, she has volunteered with hospice and palliative care organizations for adults and children around the world including in Ghana, Australia, and in her hometown of Buffalo, NY. Through this work, and her own experiences of loss and grief, she realized that too many of us miss the opportunity to live the end of our lives the way we wish we would have.
She founded A Storied Life to bring neighbors together to prepare informationally and spiritually for death, well before their time comes, and to host a safe, brave space for them to share their stories and truly listen to one another. The results for connection and peace ripple beyond these programs into families, communities, and the healthcare system.
