Our Way
Storylistening is the practice of holding space for another as they speak their stories and discover their own truth – offering careful attention without intruding with impulses to interrupt, save, fix, or advise. It has the potential to build a sense of trust, connection, and self-knowledge that is lifegiving for all. Our experienced facilitators establish and uphold a strong and gentle structure (including a group agreement) to ensure a safe, brave space for all. While our facilitators bring information, resources, and expertise to the group, we are not teachers. Instead, we empower each person to select what’s useful and meaningful from what is shared in order to advise themselves. We believe that each person already has the wisdom to discern what they need to do. We help them to tap into their own inner teacher.
Our How
A Storied Life gathers neighbors to prepare both informationally and philosophically for death, well before their time comes. The organization provides a safe, brave space for folks to share their stories and truly listen to one another, fostering connection and peace that extends into families, communities, and the healthcare system.
We invite community members to gather in person, before facing a health crisis or terminal diagnosis, to engage in this important topic that many prefer to avoid. By sharing resources, encouraging conversations, and allowing each of us to advise ourselves, we help ensure that when our time comes, we are more prepared to live that time in alignment with our values.
